TAMRON AF70-300mm F/4-5.6 LD DI MACRO lense test

Lense optical performance is definitely above what one could expect from it at short 70mm zoom with practically no CA. It maybe a slight pincusion at wide-angle end. It becomes softer with visible CA at 280-300mm.

Macro mode "a dollar and few cents"

Since macro mode seems to be the most interesting issue to many, my test wouldn't be complete without macro test image and here you go, "a dollar and few cents". There's a macro switch on that lense that increases focus ring rotation angle beyond 1.5meters as close as to 0.95meters giving you 1:2 macro range at 300mm focal length. To return back to normal, please rotate focus ring to distance above 1.5 meters. This would release macro switch, otherwize some people complain as if it got stuck or jammed, which is simply a matter of lense built. There's one thing about macro mode - special macro lense gives better image for sure, but it's nice to have it with lense under $300.
